The University of Scranton Online Master of Health Administration Awarded CAHME Accreditation

The University of Scranton has received formal notification of its award of Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) for the online Master of Health Administration (MHA) program, making it one of the first fully online MHA programs in the nation to receive the designation.

CAHME is the premiere organization offering specialized accreditation for all health care administration programs. CAHME accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes at The University of Scranton meet the rigorous educational standards established by the governing body.

“Our MHA program team has worked hard to build one of the best programs in the nation. Being among the first to earn CAHME’s highest accreditation for the online Master of Health Administration program indicates that Scranton’s world-class faculty is developing and graduating future health care leaders that are prepared for the changing marketplace,” said says Michael Costello, Assistant Director of the online MHA program.

The CAHME accreditation ensures the following for Scranton’s online MHA students:

  • Educational experiences that offer high-quality content and engaged faculty who utilize innovative practices in teaching/educating;
  • Access to premier internships and residencies, which prepare students for marketplace;
  • Membership in a network of professional colleagues that transcends above and beyond institutional and professional association affiliations;
  • Commitment to addressing the broad scope of career opportunities in this thriving field.

CAHME accreditation — which comes as a result of an extensive and stringent application and review process by members of the CAHME Board of Directors — further enables The University of Scranton to attract quality students and faculty to the MHA program. This commitment to continuous improvement not only means that the student experience will be enhanced, but also that the Scranton MHA degree will be highly regarded — benefiting students and graduates well into their careers as healthcare administration professionals.

The online MHA curriculum is framed by The University of Scranton’s Catholic and Jesuit emphasis on ethics and education.   The program requires 44 credits and 150 hours of fieldwork experience to be completed in the students’ communities. At its completion, the program is a total of 47 credit hours.

In addition to the rigorous CAHME-accredited course work, online MHA students have the opportunity to deepen their understanding the business of healthcare with The University of Scranton’s Study Abroad program. This two-week program gives students a real-world look at healthcare settings across the globe, including Eastern Europe, Brazil, and Costa Rica, allowing them to compare and contrast the inner-workings of the global systems versus domestic health policy.

Applications to the online Master’s in Health Administration (MHA) are now being accepted. Call (866) 373-9547 or go to for more information.
