There’s a world of difference in health care across the globe.
Disease, injury, and medical conditions are challenges to all people across the globe. How those conditions are diagnosed and treated — and if diagnosis and treatment are even accessible — is what sets nations apart. In HAD 517, you’ll dive deeper into the similarities and differences of health systems around the world.
Where does this course fall in your Flex curriculum?
HAD 517 is one of four advanced courses offered within this program’s Health Care Management (HCM) specialization.
Course Overview
To be an effective health care manager in a multicultural and global environment, you’ll need to appreciate the disparities in health care services and systems that exist in many countries and the factors contributing to these differences.
- Political/government and geographic structure
- Demographic structure and health status
- Organized structure of the health care system
- Financing of health care
- Health workforce
- Health systems needs and challenges
- Management implications
As you examine current ethical issues surrounding cost, quality, and global access to health care, you’ll appreciate how advancing international interests, trade, and communications increase our sensitivity and awareness of global health problems, issues, and concerns that transcend national boundaries.
You’ll prepare an engaging news report based on a current health care topic in the news. You’ll then “editorialize,” giving your thoughts and opinions on how that topic could affect health organizations.
You’ll adopt a public health perspective to explore important global health topics:
- Determinants of health and illness
- Health status indicators
- Health policies
- Health care services and system organization and structure
- Health care services financing and delivery
The promotion of worldwide health addresses humanitarian tradition, but also allows the U.S. to take a leadership role in strengthening global health through education, research, science, and technology.
You’ll develop an understanding of other countries, an awareness of other cultures, and skills to generate collaboration. This knowledge will help you recognize the opportunities that exist for advancing leadership, developing global partnerships, improving global health issues, and engaging in cooperative actions and solutions.
