Better insight into data builds better inroads to success.
The data you collect is only valuable if you know how to use it. Increasingly, analytics are being used to gain a competitive edge. When you’re able to base information on richer data sets and more complex models, you’re able to see a more developed picture of your industry’s landscape and better identify your company’s opportunities.
Just the facts: that’s all data is. Business Intelligence (BI) takes those facts and transforms them into powerful tools to enable more effective strategic, tactical, and operational insights and decision-making. Simply put, Business Intelligence is a set of methodologies, processes, architectures, and, technologies that transform raw data into meaningful information.
In ERP 515/MIS 548, you’ll learn the tools and technologies used to turn data into competitive differentiation. You’ll see how Business Intelligence helps organizations manage large amounts of data, extract pertinent information, and transform that information into actionable knowledge through a number of applications.

Through its two main components — Data Consolidation and Storage, and Data Retrieval, Analysis, and Presentation — Business Intelligence can show you how to retain customers, increase sales, and improve your product. Data is analyzed to help you understand not just that an event happened, but why it happened and how you proceed from there.

As you delve into the use of SAP's Business Intelligence software platform, you’ll examine its Data Warehouse structure, from InfoObjects (the basic building blocks of data warehouses) to InfoCubes. These play an integral role in executing the majority of the requests for Business Intelligence.Your focus will shift to Data Extraction, Transformation, and Loading (ETL), which are essential processes to the management of data, and Reporting and Analysis, an integral part of a Business Intelligence solution.
