Scranton's online MACC degree and the increased flexibility it provides.

Demanding job, wife, mom, church volunteer, aging parents, friends, life demands so much of our time. School alone can be overwhelming, but The University of Scranton’s online Masters of Accountancy program is top notch if the decision to go back to school is in your future. There were two big drivers in my decision to attend The University of Scranton…accessibility and flexibility.

The University of Scranton’s online MACC degree has subject matter experts who really care about the student from inquisition to completion of the online program. When inquiring about The University of Scranton’s online MACC degree, I was given the information and tools needed to succeed in the program before ever actually taking the first course. I was encouraged if the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam was in my future to speak with my state board and ensure the classes that I was going to take as part of my curriculum would meet the needs of my state board requirements. The faculty has been accessible throughout the entire program and any questions or concerns I could address them by phone or email and have a quick response time. When you are not able to meet someone on campus, creating an open and engaging environment is critical to success of any online program and The University of Scranton has been remarkable about being accessible every step of the way.

The University of Scranton also provides a high level of flexibility by allowing you to move through the program at a pace you are comfortable, choose electives that interest you, and how you interact and engage with the professors and students in the class. Some schools set parameters on when you start and finish the program. Since my goal was to get enough hours to sit for the CPA exam, I had to go through the Master’s program at The University of Scranton and attend another school to complete two undergraduate accounting degrees online that the university did not offer. I was able to take a term off and complete courses at another institution and come back to my classes in the Master’s program without any additional enrollment or steps to complete.

Some schools will push you towards certain classes as a part of their program. The University of Scranton allows you to tailor the electives based on your career goals. The online MACC degree offers flexibility in how students engage in the classes to complete individual and group assignments. The professors are very organized with class preparation and students are able to set their schedule based on the course requirements for the week. You can move through individual projects at your pace to complete by the deadline provided. Group projects can be completed through email, discussion boards, phone, skype, google docs or any other measure you can creatively find to bring a group together. Personally, this program was my first introduction to google docs and I will be using it in my professional environment for sharing files in the future.

The decision to make The University of Scranton was an excellent choice to help me continue to excel in my busy career, still spend time with my family, but further my education to help me become prepared for the CPA exam.

My name is Keri Hindman and I am 37 years old.  I live in Alabama and have a husband and an almost two year old son.  They are the most fun I have each day.  I currently am a director in the healthcare industry.  I have been blessed to work in the banking, software and healthcare over my professional career and gained great exposure and knowledge to what makes companies successful based on experience.  I chose to attend the University of Scranton based on the conversations with people who gave me the information I needed to make an informed decision about my choice to build my professional resume and earn the accounting hours needed to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.  My goal is to be the Chief Financial Officer or Chief Operations Officer of a healthcare institution over the course of the next five years.  In addition to growing my career in healthcare, my goal is to teach online classes to give back to other students just as many teachers and professors have done for me.  I enjoy seeing people grow and develop the skills that God has granted.
